    Letter from Count Rudolf von Spee thanking de László for sending condolences following the death of his brother, Count Leopold von Spee (1856-1910). He reminds de László to send the reproductions of the Kaiser paintings to the Fürst. They enjoyed the reproductions of the paintings of the late Fürstin (possibly Fürstin Maria Teresa von Hohenzollern, née Princess Bourbon-Two Sicilies [see 4448])

    The Bazaar. De Lászlo is in Cairo finishing portraits of King Fuad [4094][113256][110671][4099] and his son, Prince Farouk [4122]. The writer believes de Lászlo has "painted more famous people than any living artist", including King Edward VII [7705], Queen Alexandra [7707], the Kaiser [4952], the King of Portugal [5156][5160] and Benito Mussolini [6383].

    De László appears to have misdated the letter: see fns 1, 2 and 3 in transcription; letter likely dates to 13 August 1935

    Description of time in Bad Gastein. Clearly enjoyed meeting his brother in Salzburg and was sorry to see him go. fFeling his age and is anxious to make progress with his planned memoirs. Marczi helped furnish material for this by bringing letters from Budapest.

    Leaving for the Villa Malcontenta tomorrow, plans to sketch there. Enjoying scenery of Bad Gastein. Horthy portrait [110886] to be exhibited alongside other portraits of the artists at the Nemzeti Szalon in October. Tragic death of Queen Astrid of Belgium. Item includes press cutting from the Liverpool Evening Express (24 August 1935) mentioning the inclusion of de László's portrait of the Duchess of Kent at the Liverpool Autumn Exhibition.
