Paul Laib (1869-1958) specialised in art photography and was invited to visit the studios of the eminent artists of the day recording their portraits, sculptures, drawings etc. as they were completed. His collection of over 22,000 plate glass negatives, including some 1,000 of de László’s portraits, and Laib’s painted portrait by de László are in the Witt Library at the Courtauld Institute of Art. In the summer of 2005 an informative small exhibition devoted to Laib’s life and work as a studio photographer was mounted there by Witt Librarian, Barbara Thompson.

In America de László's work was recorded by Peter A. Juley (1862-1937), whose collection is now in the Smithsonian Institute, and in Vienna by Joseph Löwy (1834-1902).

We continue to commission photography of de László's paintings for the catalogue. This is likely to cost in the region of £500,000, and we seek further sponsorship if we are to realise this project. If you would like to support our work please click here.

We also wish to express our gratitude to the following photographers for their contribution to the compilation of a professional photographic record of de László’s works:
